Grecycle is a locally owned and operated company that collects waste vegetable oil from restaurants in Southern Arizona! Here are some facts about our company and what exactly we do:

RECYCLING

• Yellow Grease, which is used cooking oil, fats, and grease, can be recycled into soap, lotion, candles, and Biodiesel.
• Oil that can be recycled is cooking oil that is used to deep fry or flash fry foods such as french fries, tortillas, donuts, and breaded foods.  Even expired cooking oils can be recycled also.
• Contaminates such as waste food products, dirt or rocks, and water can be detrimental to the recycling process of grease.
• Pouring used cooking oil down the drain clogs pipes and backs up sewers.
• Grecycle collects yellow grease, cleans the oil, and transforms it into biodiesel.

• Biodiesel is a cleaner burning fuel composed of methyl esters made from biological oils and fats.
• There are a number of fats and oils used as feedstock for the creation of biodiesel: refined vegetable oil (Soybean, Sunflower, Canola), Corn Oil from Ethanol Production, Recycled Restaurant Oil (Yellow Grease), Animal Fats (White Grease), Algea.
• Biodiesel is made through a process known as transesterification.
• Biodiesel can be used in its pure form or in blends with diesel. Blends can be used in any Diesel engine.
• The use of biodiesel provides increased lubrication and has a higher cetane number than No. 2 Diesel.  It also reduces carbon deposits left in the engine and has a cleaning effect on the engine.
• Compared to petroluem diesel, biodiesel reduces greenhouse gas emissions by up to 86%
• Note to consumers: biodiesel cannot be used with natural or butyl rubbers, vehicles with engines older than a 1993 manufacturing date can undergo modification to accommodate use of biodiesel, 100% biodiesel gels faster than petrol diesel in cold weather so park near or in a building and utilize a fuel heater.
